About Us

We are chartered by Palm Valley Lutheran Church of Round Rock and provide a high adventure program for young men ages 10½ to 18. The troop has been providing the Scouting program to the youth in the Round Rock area for over twenty-five years. We are active year-round with local camping trips and high adventure trips that have included canoeing in Utah and Arkansas, backpacking in Big Bend National Park and Colorado, wilderness survival camping, climbing and rappelling on one of the tallest climbing towers in the U.S., and "special operations themed" campouts.

Our aims in Scouting are to foster leadership and citizenship, to build character, and to help Scouts develop physically, mentally, and morally. We strive to accomplish these goals through the outdoor program that operates according to the patrol method. The patrol is a fundamental unit in which each Scout's vote counts in making decisions necessary to function in a living and working environment. The troop and each patrol are led by senior Scouts who are elected by their peers and are responsible for leading and training the troop and their patrol members.

With over 30 registered scouts in Troop #145 and over 20 registered adult leaders to support them, we are an active family oriented troop. We require all participating adults to take youth protection training annually and strongly encourage foundational training in the patrol method. So...we got that goin' for us...which is nice.

To learn more about our troop, please see the other items posted in the "Public Documents" section of this web site or get in touch with the leadership team that is listed in the "Contacts" section of this website.

The annual Troop dues covers the costs of all scout recognition/advancement materials and the cost of most weekend activities. In addition:
  1. Scouts will need to purchase their own personal copy of the Boy Scout Handbook.
  2. Scouts (and adults) are encouraged to purchase a Troop logo t-shirt (or two) for use during the summer months (when Class B is OK) and during weekend events (when Class B is OK).
  3. Individuals going on weekend camping trips or other weekend outings will usually split the cost of supplies for meals. This runs approximately $10 per event but is subject to change as needed.
  4. Individuals going on weekend camping trips or other weekend outings will usually pay a small "gas fee" to the driver of the vehicle in which they ride to the event. This runs approximately $5 per event but is subject to change as needed.
  5. Costs for longer outings (like our summer season "high adventure" trips") are calculated on a per event basis and will be borne by the participants.
  6. Troop fund raising programs are kept to a minimum and is always optional.

Meetings

Boy Scout Troop 145 meets at the Palm Valley Lutheran Church (PVLC) in the Fellowship Hall on Monday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Patrol meetings, scout leadership group meetings, and merit badge workshops are often held in the hour preceding or following the full troop meeting time. The Class A uniform is required at all Troop meetings unless prior notice has been provided that a Class B uniform is appropriate.

Troop Committee Meetings for Registered Adult Leaders and interested parents/guardians are held once per month, usually on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM These meetings are usually held at the PVLC or an offsite location. Committee Meetings are for managing Troop business, planning, reports from Committee members and discussion of any new business.

PVLC is located at 2500 Palm Valley Blvd. (Hwy. 79), 2 ½ miles east of IH 35.

Equipment

The troop provides chuck boxes, cook kits, stoves, lanterns, propane fuel, and dining flies. We also have several tents, sleeping bags, and packs available for use by scouts that don't have their own. We are one of few Troops who own our own climbing equipment. All other personal equipment must be provided by the youth or adult. Prior to purchasing equipment, we strongly recommend talking to adult leaders for recommendations on type and where to buy reliable items for reasonable costs.
